Calendar of Events 2007

* The Saturday workshops will be from 9 a.m. to 12 noon on the last Saturday of each month from March thru October in the DBG's Japanese Garden. Ray Mims, DBG's Director of Horticulture, will arrange an alternate meeting place to the Japanese Garden in case of bad weather. There is no admission charged to participate in the Saturday workshops. We will keep you posted with any updates.

Saturday Workshop March 24, 2007

§       Time of workshop - 9:00 AM to Noon. 

§       Tree provided to work on will be Buxus Microphylla species/ Box or Boxwood. 

§       Place:  12355 W 34th Place , Wheat Ridge , CO

§       Cost of the workshop to club members is $50. 

Fee includes all material (plant, wire, pot) and instruction by Harold Sasaki.  Harold has more than 50 of the boxwoods available to select from.  See photos for a representation of the trees available.  There is a maximum of 8 spaces available for this workshop.  To reserve your place at the workshop contact Les Siroky at 303-969-2616. 

 

Workshop trees - Buxus Microphylla (boxwood) from 1 gallon containers.  Trunk size at 1” above soil line 5/8” to 3/4”+.

RMBS Member Garden Collection Tour - Tour of garden and bonsai collections belonging to Jerry Morris and Allen Hills.

This year’s garden tour will feature two garden and bonsai collections belonging to Jerry Morris and Allen Hills. The schedule for the tours will be:

Jerry Morris’s 845 Dudley Street., Lakewood, from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM.
Allen Hills’s 3850 Hoyt Street, Wheatridge, form 11:00 AM to 12:00 Noon.

Bring a picnic lunch with you and eat at either Jerry’s or later atAllen’s. There will be liquid refreshments at both gardens.

Saturday, August 25 8:00 AM - Whenever Meet at Twin Forks Park and Ride and carpool up to the Fairplay area. You can also meet us up at the trailhead if you have the map Larry handed out at the meeting.

Saturday, September 29 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM Member House - See Details>>>> RMBS Member Garden Collection Tour 

Visit Steve's garden and greenhouse to see his innovative ways to keep tropical and native material alive and healthy in our challenging Colorado environment. Steve has setup outdoor garden areas, a shade house, misting system and greenhouse in order to take advantage of our full growing season.

The workshop will go from 10:00AM until 1:00PM - Rain or Shine. Drinks and a hamburger/hotdog cookout will be provided but feel free to bring other lunch items if you like. Steve's house is located at 18260 E Long Ave, Centennial 80016 (near Arapahoe Road and Parker Road in SE Metro area) Phone 303-944-8355 if you have any questions.

If you use map quest, the location on the map is not correct. Steve's house is directly south of S. Yampa St on Long Ave, about 1/4 mile farther east than the map quest map shows.

Follow-up to the ficus tree workshop. Bring your ficus and other tropicals for tree analysis/discussion. Share with others what was successful in care and training and what was not.  - Steve Goodwin

November 6 7:00 PM* The meeting will be held in a DIFFERENT LOCATION for this month only. The meeting place has been changed to Gates Hall at Denver Botanic Gardens. This is a one-time-only change and future meetings will be back in the Warring House.  Gates Hall is in the back of the lobby of the main building at DBG.
