Trident Maple Branch Pruning:

What?
Removal of undesirable branches.

How?
With clippers or knob cutters. Cut entire branch or reduce length of branch.

When?
Any time. Trident Maples do not bleed when cut.

Why?
To improve the form of the tree. Carefully planned pruning can be used to increase branches in one area, strengthen weak areas and reduce the growth of areas that are too vigorous. Branch pruning removes branches:

  • growing up or down,
  • no longer needed for thickening trunk,
  • that are opposite to each other,
  • that are out of scale in their position,
  • that are crowding or shading other branches as the tree matures,
  • that are longer than needed to preserve the desired triangular shape,
  • back to a short internode or completely.
